Position Summary Information

Nature of Work

Work-Study Student Assistants work in a variety of positions across campus. Departments have varying job descriptions for student employees. Some tasks often include providing customer service to office visitors, staff, and faculty; running errands on campus, tutoring, lab assistance, and performing clerical tasks. Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor/department.

Essential Duties

Assist departmental staff and faculty with clerical tasks, including document preparation, filing, copying, basic Excel spreadsheet data entry and maintenance. Run errands on campus and assist with lab cleanup, under direction of faculty. Assist with communication, including ability to answer phone and convey information correctly when taking messages. Ability to lift and carry 15 pounds for 50 feet on occasional basis, squat, stoop, and reach overhead.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Must have a work study award. Must have good telephone communication skills and customer service experience also required.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

Effective communication (verbal and written), organization, and human relations skills; proficient with Microsoft Applications software, including spreadsheets, database and word processing; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment; ability to work with diverse populations. Cannot be a Rehabilitation Science or DPT major due to nature of work.
