Position Summary Information

Nature of Work

This is a student employment position providing in-depth assistance and support to the department or program. Peer Reference Assistants are the first people students see when they come to the Learning Commons and the Lane Library Reference Desk. Their duties include assisting with basic research and technology questions, fielding inquiries from students about the Learning Commons and Lane Library policies, maintaining a clean and inviting learning environment, and completing various other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

1. Assist students with basic research-related or technical questions.

2. Assists students with computers, printers, mobile devices, and other interactive learning technologies.

3. Direct students to different areas in the library & learning commons.

4. Assist students with navigating the library web site, finding books on shelves, and using online library resources for research.

5. Answer and refer incoming messages on reference chat system.

6. Performs other duties or projects as needed

Minimum Qualifications and Training

1. Must be enrolled at Armstrong State University.
2. Must maintain a B average

Preferred Qualifications and Training

1. Competence in using and showing others how to use PCs and Macs.

2. Familiarity with Microsoft Office program (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and an aptitude for learning more advanced programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud applications.

3. Knowledge of library methods, materials and organization

4. Knowledge of article databases and other reference material used in a library

5. A commitment to providing excellent customer service

6. 2nd year or beyond preferred.
