Position Summary Information

Nature of Work

The student researcher will be responsible for helping Dr. Pirok find and map the location of 20th Century (mainly WPA recorded) place-based ghost stories from Virginia using a variety of primary sources, maps, and online databases. The work is largely, if not wholly, computer based.

Essential Duties

1. Assists with data and information collection for Dr. Pirok’s storymap.
2. Utilizes archives, websites, document sites, and other resources for hands-on research
3. Maps sites on “StoryMaps”
4. Helps populate “StoryMaps” pins with information.
5. If time allows, helps Dr. Pirok create a hosting page for the map.
6. Presents summaries of research efforts at Student Scholars Symposium

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Must be enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts at Armstrong for the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

1. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
3. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
4. Ability to work effectively with little oversight or direction
5. Be at least a Sophomore.
6. Have an interest in historical ghostlore/folklore, history, maps, or digital history.
