Position Summary Information

Nature of Work

The Department of Chemistry and Physics seeks undergraduate students to assist with the design and development of new polymer experiments to be used in several teaching laboratories throughout the curriculum. The student will work with a faculty member to create standardized protocols.

Essential Duties

The students will engage in research on the development new polymer experiments for several teaching laboratories. The student will be required to perform, but not limited to, the following duties: perform literature searches, build synthetic scheme building, perform chemical reactions with appropriate isolation techniques, utilize modern characterization instrumentation (Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, single crystal X-ray crystallography, Gel-permeation chromatography, Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy, analyze and interpret spectroscopic/spectrometric data, prepare written and oral presentations, maintain laboratory space and keep a well-organized laboratory notebook.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Must have passed CHEM 2101, 2101L with a minimum grade of C.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

Chemistry or Biochemistry major Preferred. Related fields will be considered.
