Position Summary Information

Nature of Work

Under the supervision of the Intramural Sports Graduate Assistants, the Intramural Sports Official is responsible for providing a fun atmosphere in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Must be able to implement policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness and safety.

Essential Duties

• Educate clients and enforce policies regarding safe and proper use of equipment and facility.
• Officiate intramural contests.
• Assist with pre and post-game logistics and administrative functions.
• Assist with preparation and inspection of the game site.
• Provide PR/Program promotion and policy education to participants..
• Attend all mandatory meetings and workshops
• Awareness of safety concerns and risk management.
• Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures.
• Maintain a positive relationship with staff and co-workers.
• Adhere to all and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
• Ensure a safe environment for all participants.
• Provide a friendly, upbeat and customer service oriented environment at all times.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Must be enrolled at Armstrong State University


Sports Officials will be trained and provided with the means to succeed at their job. After an appropriate matter of time (as determined by the Intramural Sports Graduate Assistants) a Sports Officials must have:
• Mastered the basics of general officiating (poise, confidence, control).
• Working knowledge of the rules and mechanics of their sport(s).
• An awareness of and the ability to enforce the policies of this Department.
• Learned how to assist in setting up and breaking down a site.
