Position Summary Information

Nature of Work

This is a student employment position providing in-depth assistance and support to the department or program.

The Supplemental Instructor reviews key concepts of lecture, answers student’s questions, and helps students solve assigned problems in the text. These sessions are open to all sections of the assigned class.

Essential Duties

Attends lower-level mathematics classes conducted by an assigned instructor.

Prepares a written plan for each supplemental instruction session.

Holds supplemental instruction sessions for the assigned class for at least 3 hours per week.

Maintains an accurate attendance log for each of the supplemental instruction sessions.

Prepares for supplemental instruction sessions by reviewing text, lecture notes, and working end of chapter problems prior to the time of the sessions.

Provides feedback to the professor and supervisor regarding session outcomes, improvements, etc.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Must be enrolled in the College of Science and Technology at Armstrong for the duration of employment and maintain a “B” average. High performance in current or past upper-level Mathematics classes.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

Effective communication both verbal and written.

Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Ability to work effectively with little oversight or direction.
