Position Summary Information

Nature of Work

This is a student employment position providing in-depth assistance and support to participants in the TRiO Student Support Services program who are experiencing academic difficulty in math, science, English, or other subjects.

Essential Duties

TRiO Student Support Services math and science tutors will serve as private or small group tutors for students having difficulties in Math (College algebra, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus), Science ( Biology I/II, Anatomy and Physiology I/II, Chemistry I/II, English, other subjects (History, Psychology, Philosophy, etc.). The tutor will be called upon on an “as needed” basis to conduct small group or private tutoring.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

1. Must maintain no less than a “B” average in the subject (s) in which you tutor.
2. Must be available nights and weekends.
3. Ability to organize and prepare review material.
4. Extensive knowledge of subject in which you tutor.
5. Ability to relate key math or science concepts.
6. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

1. Tutoring experience preferred.
2. Experience working with TRiO students.
